If your order won’t go through, the decline message from your card issuer can point to the reason. Below are common codes and what they usually mean, plus what you (or your customer) can do next.
Card Decline Codes & What They Mean

05 — Do Not Honor
The bank refused the charge without a specific explanation. Contact your card issuer. -
07 — Pick Up Card (Special Condition)
The card is flagged as lost or stolen. Reach out to the bank right away. -
12 — Invalid Transaction
Something about the entry or the way the card was used isn’t valid. The bank can clarify. -
41 — Lost Card, Pick Up (Fraudulent)
Reported as lost and blocked from use. Only the bank can resolve this. -
43 — Stolen Card, Pick Up (Fraudulent)
Reported stolen and disabled. Please speak with your bank. -
51 — Insufficient Funds
Not enough available balance for the purchase. Check funds or ask your bank about options. -
54 — Expired Card
The card’s expiration date has passed. Request a replacement from your bank. -
57 — Transaction Not Permitted to Cardholder
This type of purchase isn’t allowed on the card. Ask the bank about lifting the restriction. -
62 — Restricted Card
Usage is limited (for example, to certain regions or merchants). Call your bank to verify. -
65 — Activity Limit Exceeded
You’ve hit a daily or transaction cap. The bank may raise the limit temporarily. -
91 — Issuer or Switch Inoperative
Temporary issue with the issuer or network. Your bank can confirm when it’s resolved. -
93 — Transaction Cannot Be Completed (Violation of Law)
A regulatory or legal block prevented the charge. Contact the bank for details. -
N7 — CVV2 Failure
Security check (like CVV) didn’t match. Verify your details with the bank. -
R0 / R1 — Stop Payment Order
The bank blocked the charge at the customer’s request. Confirm the stop with your bank.
